I believe in the power of getting lost in the beauty of nature's landscapes. There is a regenerative state that often happens when you lose yourself in contemplation while staring at vast distances in nature. In my Topography series, I am combining topological map elements, symbols, and satellite imagery with abstract mark-making to highlight the areas where nature and man-made locations are sitting side by side. Each world is contained within a circle, as if looking through a lens can keep us at a distance from how we affect our planet. These paintings are meant to highlight the beauty of location, while understanding there is tension between growth and stewardship. I want to create a portal-like experience that pulls the viewer into a visual space that inspires both gazing outwards, and gazing inwards, reminding us that we are all of this beautiful planet.
